Bedtime stories are an important part of child development in many ways. Not only do they help children to relax and unwind, they can also enrich language development, encourage conversation skills and develop empathy.

So to help you pick out some night time reads, we’ve rounded up six of our top bedtime stories and collections.

1. Oh the Places you will Go!

One of our all time favourites has to be Dr Seuss’ Oh the Places You Will Go! A fun, adventure filled read with an important message for youngsters. There are some brilliant life lessons in this book that remain relevant right through to adulthood (even becoming a firm favourite gift for graduates!).

It teaches children the power of positive thinking and that anything is possible when they put their minds to it. The closing passage sums this up beautifully, suggesting that people should never put a limit on what they want to achieve.

And will you succeed?

Yes! You will, indeed!

(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

So…

be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray

or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea…

You’re off to great places,

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting,

So… get on your way.
